City of Ammon Fiber Optics Conference

October 5, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

The City of Ammon has a robust broadband network. It is a built, owned, and operated “open access” network that has revitalized our community!

Because of this “open access” first of its kind network, we are regularly invited to share our story at national conferences, but rarely get the opportunity to speak face-to-face or to give in-depth support to local cities and counties. We wanted to create a more personal and interactive opportunity to highlight the project and give practical action steps that communities and leaders can take to help them achieve their broadband goals.

We are holding a ONE DAY CONFERENCE on October 5th in Ammon to share the Ammon story.

The City of Ammon invites you to come and understand the ‘Ammon Model.’ Click here to register and attend.

You Will Learn:

  • What the Leadership of Ammon was thinking when they undertook this project?
  • How much money has been spent on this project and where the money came from?
  • What return on investment Ammon is seeing from this project?
  • What does “Software Defined Networking” mean – and why is it important to the model?
  • How Ammon Idaho found itself on the front lines of these global waves:

o Open access infrastructure and how it differs from open access networks

o Infrastructure as a service for digital innovation and communications

o The model for Small Town America to retain and attract citizens in the 21st century digital economy

o How any city in America can do what Ammon has done.

You Will See:

  • The Ammon Network Operations Center

You Will Meet:

  • The people who created the model that:

o Achieved a 75% voluntary take rate

o Added zero debt to the City

o Provides a $10 monthly internet service with no caps or contract

You Will Hear From:

  • Tom Wheeler, FCC Chairperson (video address)
  • Glenn Ricart, Founder and CTO, US Ignite
  • Dana Kirkham, Ammon Mayor
  • Bruce Patterson, CTO, Ammon
  • Chris Mitchell, Director of the Community Broadband Networks Initiative with the Institute for Local Self-Reliance
